Me, the bay, and bad facial shadow.
My name is Ian Millington. My day job is doing research and development for games developers and other technology companies, but I also run various web sites*. Some of my sites use advertising, and those that do all suffer in the same way: readers who are most keen on the content react with either apathy or antipathy to the advertising.
Yet most of them (I know from their comments and emails) are grateful for the content. Several people have paypal-ed me money to buy myself a beer. And I know they are so interested in the topic that they are bound to find some of my advertisers interesting (hell, I do, and I'm not allowed to click on the ads).
I am convinced we've got an ad-averse culture among those who love our content. If that changed just a little, I believe it would free thousands of hours of human effort to serve the greater good. That's why I started this campaign.
